We’re Working to make Central Louisiana great!
Gannett Foundation: A philanthropic foundation sponsored by Gannett. The Gannett Foundation supports nonprofit activities in Central Louisiana and other Gannett influenced communities. In 2012, the Gannett Foundation made grants and matched employee donations to nonprofits for a total of $6.9 million.
Make A Difference Day: Millions of people and many businesses come together on the fourth Saturday in October to participate in Make A Difference Day. It is the largest national day of helping others and is sponsored by Gannett’s USA WEEKEND and its carrier newspapers, including The Town Talk. Each year, The Town Talk Media Network employees and their family members volunteer on a common initiative to help our neighbors in need.
The Doll and Toy Fund: The Town Talk’s Doll and Toy Fund is an annual Christmas drive that got its formal start in the 1930s during the Great Depression. The Town Talk partnered with the Alexandria Rotary Club in the 1950s to increase support and awareness. Each year at Christmas time, local needy families who would otherwise not be able to afford to purchase toys for their children are identified by local service organizations, such as the United Way, Shepherd Center and Salvation Army. Working with funds raised from Town Talk reader donations and gifts from the community, members of the Alexandria Rotary Club along with Town Talk employees purchase toys, and those selected families are invited to choose a toy for each of their children. Each year, nearly 1,000 children who would likely not get a toy at all at Christmas receive a gift from the Doll & Toy Fund.
